Veterans’ mental health charity receives £5,000 boost

The UK’s leading veterans’ mental health charity has benefitted from a £5,000 donation from Westfield Health.

Combat Stress, whose Head Office is based in Surrey, treats veterans for a range of mental health conditions including Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), depression and anxiety.

Some of the veterans who receive treatment from Combat Stress have both physical and mental health issues. The donation from Westfield Health will pay for two mobility scooters to enable those with physical injuries to attend the treatment centre in Surrey. It will also be used to fund the purchase of two washer disinfectors which are used for infection prevention and control.

Combat Stress was founded just after the First World War to support those with the condition then known as ‘shell shock’. Nearly one hundred years later, their work remains as vital as ever – the charity had more than 2,000 referrals in the last year.

Robert Marsh, Director Income Generation at Combat Stress said: “We are extremely grateful to Westfield Health for their £5,000 grant to Combat Stress.

“We continue to see an increase in demand for our mental health services for veterans, it’s vital that we raise awareness and funds for the charity to ensure we can continue to support veterans that need our help. That’s why grants, such as this one from Westfield Health, are so important.”

Graham Moore, chairman of Westfield Health, said: “We are thrilled to have provided this donation to Combat Stress. The work that they do to provide care for veterans is exceptional and they should be applauded.

“It is difficult to imagine what our servicemen and women go through when they are serving for our country and to know that there is support like this from Combat Stress I’m sure is of huge reassurance to those who need it.”
