Project Spotlight

Last year our Charitable Trust donated £50,000 to Sheffield Children’s Hospital to help create a new safeguarding support unit for vulnerable young people.

The newly developed space opened to patients in December 2019 after 18 months of design and building work and features bigger rooms, specialist artwork, and unique space for play.

This specialist facility has been specially developed to support children and young people where there have been safeguarding concerns. This includes patients with potential neglect or physical, sexual, or emotional abuse, where specialist children’s doctors are required.

Westfield Health have supported the British Transplant Games for over 10 years. The annual event raises the profile of the donor register and improves the quality of life to transplant recipients’ through a connected transplant community.

Taking place in different host cities every Summer, the games see teams from hospitals across the UK come together to compete in a medley of sports. The 4-day event attracts around 1000 transplant athletes and more than 1500 supporters.

To protect the health of the transplant recipients, the 2020 and 2021 events were replaced with a virtual engagement campaign. As long time advocates and sponsors, we have continued to support the games virtually and look forward to seeing the athletes back in Leeds 2022.

As part of our special centenary donations in 2019, we donated £50,000 to Ashgate Hospicecare in Chesterfield to help transform the centre’s 30 year-old bed bays into nine private rooms to provide patients with a more comfortable and personal space, and last month they officially opened for use.

The new private rooms will completely transform the way the centre cares for its patients and enable them to care for more people at any given time thanks to reduced restrictions compared to the old bays.

Not only that, the new rooms will allow patients to increase the amount of precious personal time they can have with their families and give their loved ones somewhere private to grieve once they’ve passed.

Our Charitable Trust recently donated £20,000 to Nottingham Hospitals Charity’s BIG Appeal; a charitable initiative with the aim of improving the parent and family accommodation and paediatric imaging of their children’s hospital.

Evidence shows that having a loved one close by improves post-operative recovery, reduces anxiety, and helps with overall wellbeing. So, providing parents and families with a comfortable space to stay so that they can be near their children is incredibly important.

Our donation will be used to purchase new furniture and room upgrades for the children’s hospital’s accommodation rooms, making is easier for parents and families to be near their children when they’re needed most.

Last September, Westfield Health proudly sponsored Mencap’s National Learning Disability Swimming Championships event in Liverpool.

The event is a fantastic way for hundreds of people with learning disabilities to come together and compete at a sport that keeps them active and healthy, with their family and friends in the stands to cheer them on.

Events like these are wonderful for the physical and mental health of the participants, bringing them together to train and compete with their friends and families.

Starting Blocks Challenge

Westfield Health are also the Double Gold Partner of their UK wide #StartingBlocks Challenge.

But what is the Starting Blocks Challenge?

A starting block is the person, place or moment that inspired you to become who you are today. We’re challenging people to get sponsored to run, walk, swim or ride the distance back to where their story started.

The money raised will help the Trust support young people through transformational programmes delivered by world-class athletes who’ve been trained as coaches and mentors.

So, are you ready to #gobacktogiveback? Head here to get involved.

Our CEO, Dave Capper, sat down with Dame Kelly Holmes to talk about resilience and the positive impact of a mentor, as well as why partnerships like this are so valuable.
